Disability Income
Short-term Disability (STD) and Long-term Disability (LTD) Insurance
MetLife Insurance Company provides the Short-term Disability (STD) and Long-term Disability (LTD) insurance that provides some financial protection for you by paying a portion of your income in the event that you are disabled for an extended period. Short-term disability benefits begin on the eighth day of disability and continue up to 26 weeks of the disability. The benefit amount is based on your earnings prior to the disability. Long-term disability benefits begin the elimination period of 180 days after which a disabled employee meeting the criteria under the plan is eligible to receive a maximum of 60% of monthly earnings (up to $5,000 per month). Payments may be reduced by deductible sources of income and there may be some benefit limitations based on the nature of the disability and/or claimant age at disability. There is also a death benefit provision under the plan.
